Assistance Available Now
Deschutes County has received a grant to provide financial assistance to low income landowners to reduce hazardous vegetation (fuels) around homes in a effort to reduce the risk of damage caused by wildfire.
The program goal is to increase the protection of structures and level of survivability against advancing wildfires and ember showers. Residents and landowners can take responsibility for reducing these risks by creating fire resistant or “defensible” spaces around homes and structures.
Financial assistance is available to assist landowners who wish to reduce hazardous fuels in the 30 feet of space that directly surrounds the landowner’s home. Up to an additional 100 feet of lighter fuels reduction work may be done based on visual inspection and agreement.
A demonstration of low income status is required.
To apply for assistance or for more information, please contact Project Wildfire at 541-382-1675.
